CYSA North - District II Coaching License Policy (click here for details)

  • All Class 1 and Class 3 head coaches shall hold a CYSA E/D license. Head coaches of U16 or above Class 1 or Premier teams shall hold a CYSA State D license or equivalent NSCAA National diploma
  • All Class 1 and Class 3 assistant coaches shall hold a CYSA F license.

CYSA-N State Licenses

State licenses are received by attending courses in the CYSA-N licensing program. The State and National D licenses course is offered through the CYSA-N state office. All lower courses are offered through CYSA-N districts. For Northern California Licensing Classes: http://www.cysanorth.org/Coaching/coaching_courses.htm; for local licensing classes: http://www.cysadistrict2.org/coachpgm.htm. If enough coaches are interested in a particular class, the PASC can host a course here in Palo Alto for you. Please contact Paul Koo for more information.

  • F License: 3 hours classroom; 6 hours field (Minimum requirement for Class 1 and Class 3 assistant coaches in CYSA-N District 2)
  • E License: 6 hours classroom; 12 hours field
  • E/D License: 6 hours classroom; 26 hours field, typically held over two consecutive weekends (minimum requirement for Class 1 [up through U15] and all Class 3 head coaches in CYSA-N District 2)
  • D (State) License: 4-5 Day residential course (minimum requirement for U16 Class 1 head coaches in CYSA-N District 2)
  • D (National) License: Requirements: State "D" license plus on-field evaluation (needed for taking the National "C" license course (see below).

USSF National Licenses

National licenses are awarded by the USSF National School . All new candidates must have a national "D" license (see above) and must show proof of it when applying for the "C" national course. Coaches must hold the national "D" license 1 year before they can attend the national "C" course. More information is available from US Soccer National Coaching Program.

  • "C" (USSF) License: 9 day residential course. For CYSA-N ODP head coaches; private organizations may establish this license as their minimum requirement
  • "B" (USSF) License: 9 day residential course. Private organizations may establish this license as their minimum requirement
  • "A" (USSF) License: 9 day residential course. For professional (MLS, A-League, WUSA), college coaches, US National team coaches, US National staff, ODP Head Regional coaches, USYS State Director of Coaching, ODP State team head coaches

Other (not in the "F"-to-"A" sequence)

  • USSF "Y" License: 5 day residential course
  • G (state goalkeeper) License: 3 hours classroom; 6 hours field
