Winning gold!

After winning Silver B D2 cup in December, the girls won CCSL Silver Spring league division, and then the championship for the gold bracket of Spring D2 cup on June 5.

With the guidance of their new coaches, Emilee O’Neil and Katie Riley, both former Stanford players, the girls had a 7-1 Spring season culminating in the D2 cup victory. In the final game of this Spring’s D2 cup, the Hurricanes faced the undefeated Los Gatos Wildcats. The girls had a fierce battle and played to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. The defense of Skylar Burris, Mara Zenger, Alia Cuadros-Contreras, and Marion Sellier remained composed under blistering pressure from the Wildcats. Maya Kandell, Jasmine Abeyta, Gillian Meeks, Keishi Foecke, Inger Smuts, Celeste Woloshyn, and Mondy Ahy rotated through to keep the middle intact and help out the back. Nina Leviten and Sara Shapiro led the attack for the Hurricanes. The game remained tied after two overtimes leading to penalty kicks. During the penalty kicks, the Hurricanes had two great saves by goalie Dhara Yu, and her teammates iced the victory by calmly putting away their penalty shots.

Palo Alto 99G looks forward to playing Silver Elite this Fall. The team practices and competes year round and is looking for one or two more players who could significantly impact the team moving forward. Interested players should contact team manager Linda Hinton at HintonL@mac.com.
